Let it Snow!!

When I woke up this morning I had a text picture from Dr. D:

It snowed in Amarillo... And this 75 degree weather in November just isn't cutting it. I miss waking up & the ground being covered in a light snow. I miss bundling up before heading out of the house. I miss Amarillo... a lot.

I am wishing/hoping/praying for the cold weather to continue while we are in town. Partly because I've got this super cute new faux fur coat to wear. &&& I love my husband because he is officially finished with 1 of his finals for this semester. Education Law... YOU'RE DONE! He turned in his final around noon today, so we are in desperate need of a fun weekend.

Sittin' Waitin' Wishin'

I keep waiting to updated this until something either exciting or significant happens... Welp, I gave up. So here's an update on our semi-charmed, kinda boring, simplified life.

Last week was team building week at work. I went into it with a horrible attitude thinking I would hate every minute of it. I did. No, we didn't sit in a circle and sing Kumbaya like I feared, but we did talk about our goals, dream of the company's future, and discuss how we appreciate one another. Not exactly my cup of tea. But I survived & and with a smile on my face!

This past weekend was nice, but again, uneventful. Friday we ordered a pizza and I started watching season 1 of The Rachel Zoe Project. OBSESSED. Seriously & for real she rocks.

Saturday we went to the SMU tailgate and stayed just long enough for a couple beers and some free food. And it was time to replenish our collection of "SMU Law" cups. Chris said, "Drink as much as you can before we leave. We need more cups." He wasn't kidding.
Saturday night we went to Hacienda to watch Tech play UT and Sunday I cleaned my house and my puppies!
Chris has another job interview on October 8th, which just happens to be my 25th birthday. Him getting this job would be the best birthday present ever. EVER. I try not to think about it because when I do I start to get my hopes up, which I vowed never to do. Plus I don't want to jinx anything.
& this little cutie patootie got shaved.

&&& I love my husband because he graduates from SMU law in 237 days!

One Day at a Time...

As I've said many, many, times before this phase of our lives is really, due to lack of a better adjective, odd. By odd I mean we are married, but have no kids. We are out of college, but we Chris is still in law school. We aren't "old" but we definitely aren't college kids. It's just weird.

So I often times find myself putting the cart in front of the horse. If it was up to me I'd have our entire life mapped out on a sequential timeline and strategically placed on our refrigerator door. Control freak much? I find comfort in knowing the future. I like the reassurance that we have goals & I like the feeling it gives me when I succeed.

This phase of our life doesn't allow me to do that. Although I think I know where we will be in a year, I don't put too much faith in that. I mean, we changed where Chris was going to attend law school AT LEAST 3 times before he settled on SMU, so who's to say we won't do the same when he's offered a job?!?

I'd love to just sit down and plan out our entire lives on a calendar and submit it to God for "final review." He must really be chuckling as I write this. Sometimes my need for control overwhelms my submission to God. I forget that HE is in charge, not me. And the plans He has for me are far greater than anything I could come up with.

I pray that God gives me an open heart. I pray that God breaks down my plans and replaces them with his own. I pray that he break down the guard in my heart.

&&& I love my husband because I feel like he is unknowingly leading me closer to Christ.

05*14*2011

Will be the best day of my life.

I have been curious as to when Chris's law school graduation will be, and according to the SMU registrar website we have an official date. Woo hoo! It seems so real now that I know the date he will officially get his J.D.

Now all we have to do is survive the next 375 days... NBD, right?

I get really down & out during this time of year. I spend most evenings at home alone & wake up to an empty house. I feel like a 24 year old divorcee. For 2 weeks every semester my husband leaves me for someone else; Dedman School of Law Library. During these 2 weeks we are lucky to spend 30 minutes together. IF we do have dinner he leaves immediately after for the library. I'm not much for sharing, so law school finals-- could you hurry up and get over with!?! I miss my husband.

On the up side of life: Chris starts working full time NEXT WEEK! I am so ready for another D.I.N.K summer.

&&& I love my husband because he gives 100% to his school work... something I never quite mastered....

The Woman With You...

I'm a sap for country love songs (actually country music in general). I love it. Chris & my mom swear that country music puts them in a foul mood, but for me it does the opposite. When I hear one of my old favorite songs it makes sitting in traffic just a little more bearable.

So this morning on my way to work I heard one of my faves, Kenny Chesney. Ahhh how I love thee. It went a little something like this:

The girl I was with a business degree
probably wouldn't recognize me.
I was gonna run the bank I was gonna run them out.
Now all I wanna run is a bubble bath.
Back then you know I had this plan
Before all of this reality set in;
Here comes life baby ready or not.
I wanted it all & that's what I got.

Cheesy, I know, but this song really describes my life right now. I don't know what I thought I'd be doing with my life, but I am positive this isn't it. I guess I thought Chris would magically float through law school, we would survive on money falling from trees & I would just hang out and play house until he got out. Ha.

I know better than to wish my life away, but I find myself wanting to fast forward through the next year and a quarter. Everyone is constantly telling me, "It will all be worth it someday" but sometimes I wonder will it? I have to take step back, put things into perspective & remind myself how luck we are; We're debt free, no children, family and friends who come visit, and living in the big city with tons of exciting activities. This is supposed to be a fun time of our life, so why rush it?

&&& I love my husband because... he lets me listen to country... but only if it's Pat Green :)

Winter Wonderland!

This is what it looks like outside our window (Yes, there is only 1 window in the whole building) at work. Who knew this was possible in Dallas??

BIG News: Chris got offered a job...The perfect job. And it's in Amarillo, working for Dean & right out of law school. I feel like a huge weight is lifted off our shoulders. Even if a better offer comes about it is such a relief to have a back up plan. MORE BIG NEWS!! Chris officially made the Dean's list at SMU. Yesterday was just a fabulous day. My heart is overjoyed and I am so thankful for all of our good fortune lately.

&&& I would love my husband even if we had to move to Montana for him to have a job.

Real life update...

I very seldom discuss our "real life" issues on here, so I thought I would take a moment and discuss where we are at right now.

Chris is 1/2 way through law school! Hallelujah! Rejoice! Amen! If this next year and a half go by as quickly as the first we are definitely on the downhill slope. He now gets to pick his courses and really enjoys all of his business courses, especially bankruptcy. He was also given the opportunity to participate in the SMU Tax Clinic. This is a group of about 10 students who do pro-bono tax law for locals. It's pretty neat because he is getting to practice law & he doesn't technically have his JD (He had to apply for a temporary bar license)

In addition to school Chris is still working part time at HKB here in Dallas. He absolutely loves his coworkers and is so blessed to have such a positive work environment. If you had told me 2 years ago that working for the Strong Arm would be such a blessing in our life I would have cringed. After the first 2 semesters and a let down from Underwood we both realized that sometimes life doesn't always turn out how you want or even how you like, but it will be ok. When God closes a door he opens a window. Cliche, I know, but for us it is so true. I sometimes wonder if I would take our good fortune for granted had Chris dominated his first 2 semesters, gotten an internship at a big law firm, and stepped into a $200,000 a year job right out of law school? Or would I have the mindset that I deserved it?

As for me.... my company merged. Butler Animal Health Supply & Henry Schien merged to form Butler Schein. Yes, I work for But Schein. Work for me is the same ole same ole. Just trying to survive this merger.

&&& I love my husband because.... he mad a 3.5 this semester.
Hello Dean's list!

Congrats Chris!

CHRIS GOT A SUMMER JOB!!!
Chris is officially employed as a summer clerk at Hunter Kalinke and Boyd. He had an interview last Friday and was hired on the spot. He went in on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week for training and starts working 12 hours/week as soon as this brief is finished.

We are so thankful for this opportunity. We thought that this summer Chris would be working for free for a judge in Dallas gaining very little hands on experience. This opportunity aids our family with a pay increase as well as providing Chris with hands on experience.

This week was Chris's spring break. We didn't do anything exciting. It's sad because it's our first year out of undergrand and the first year we haven't gone anywhere. Last year we had the couple's ski trip to Angel Fire, the year before I went to Cali, and actually the year before that I went to Cali with Kayla.

LAST YEAR IN ANGEL FIRE w/ TAY 2008
LAGUNA BEACH 2007
OHHHHH!! So I was sitting on the floor arranging our DVD shelf when I realized the massive amounts of hair that have accumulated around the baseboards in our apartment. Sooo it motivated me to do something about it. Hince our purchase of the "furminator". It is awesome. She let me sit and brush her out for half an hour on Sunday. It's amazing how much hair came off of that dog.

Busy Weekend!!

This weekend was very eventful from start to finish.

Friday night we went to dinner at Buca with our new friends T.J. and Erin. They both did their undergrad at Tech (T.J. is in law school and Erin finishes in December... and she's a kappa!)
Saturday was Carter Man's 1st birthday party. We spent the afternoon with Chris's family celebrating. It's crazy he's already a year old!! He's growing like a little weed.

Saturday night we went to the SMU Law tailgate. FREE FOOD!

Sunday morning started with the dog park, as most do. Followed by a trip to Las Colinas to meet Collin & Whit for lunch. It was great to see them, even thought it was a short visit.

After our lunch with the Kinsers we met the Hoodlums' at the Texas State Fair. It was the last day it was here in Dallas, so we couldn't resist. We resisted the urge to spend $15 on the rides, but we definitely enjoyed the fried food and petting zoo! I think they have fried everything... fried cokes, fried cookie dough, chicken fried bacon, and fried latte just to name a few.
